RecyClass has given the go-ahead for Void Technologies' cavitation technology

This has been created to speed up the shift toward more environmentally friendly flexible packaging by decreasing the amount of solid plastic in polyethylene (PE) film.

According to Void, their novel “VO+ PE Masterbatch” allows for a 35% material savings through density reduction and downgauging, as well as opacity without TiO2, in PE films manufactured utilising Cavitated Machine Direction Orientation (MDO).

This technique has recently been validated as being entirely compatible with the European polyethylene recycling stream, clearing the road for its adoption by film and packaging manufacturers across the European Union.

Without the need of gas injection or bulky mineral fillers, VO+ is able to produce high-performance products with a smaller carbon footprint by replacing solid plastic with micro- and nano-scale air spaces.
